Merging agriculture and education in Sitio Duas Cachoeiras
Sitio Duas Cachoeiras is located in a rural area in southeast Brazil’s Mantiqueira mountain range, with parts spreading into the states of São Paulo, Minas Gerais, and Rio de Janeiro. The farm merges ecological agriculture with education in exciting ways. Alongside research projects and forest conservation, Two Waterfalls focuses on teaching more than 40,000 young people the need to preserve nature by developing sustainable interactions between humans and life in the forests.
Visitors to the farm can participate in educational projects on environmental protection, alternative energy sources, agro-ecological management, seed identification and collection, and many other topics. Beyond education, the farm plays a key role in environmental care itself: since 1985, Sitio Duas Cachoeiras has helped protect and preserve 1,300,000m2 of Atlantic Forest, while also managing numerous other projects.
Rousselot Amparo is excited about the opportunity to promote sustainability through education by sponsoring Sitio Duas Cachoeiras. As a well-established industrial player in our communities, projects like these help us to play a positive role in the neighborhoods in which we operate.
Guiding students toward sustainability
Rousselot Amparo started to get involved in the Sitio Duas Cachoeiras effort and to engage Amparo students on these nature preservation issues in March 2022. Students from different schools in Amparo were invited to register online for educational excursions to the Sitio Duas Cachoeiras. Colleagues from our local Rousselot plant guided the students from the meeting point to the farm. At the farm, the students received explanations on the rules of nature and learned about ways in which we can preserve nature, such as composting and tree planting. They also engaged in a variety of expressive and cultural activities, such as photography, music and dance performances – all promoting the concept of sustainability.
By October 2022, Rousselot will have supported the activities and transportation of approximately 910 participants.
